Biography
For years I have exhibited in juried shows, and one and two artist shows in New Mexico and Colorado and in galleries including the Albuquerque Photographers Gallery. My pictures are in private collections from coast to coast and border to border and in public collections in New Mexico. I am honored to mount my second exhibition in the Gallery With a Cause. Proceeds from the sale of Gallery art support the New Mexico Cancer Center Foundation. I have been a Board member since the Foundation’s inception and have proudly served for 24 years. The Foundation provides financial support for everyday living expenses for patients with cancer and other serious illnesses.
Artist Statement
I have been making black and white photographs in the Western, black and white landscape tradition since I was a youngster. For many years I used film which I developed myself. Now I work with digital capture and processing. I have always printed my own black and white work, first from the film negatives in an old-fashioned wet darkroom, and now with inkjet prints from digital files. I use special all black ink sets of varying shades and tonalities which render prints of exceptional detail, tonality and beauty. Recently I have been making prints which combine modern digital technology with legacy techniques; prints from digital negatives on special paper which I hand coat with a light sensitive Platinum Palladium emulsion and vellum prints hand embossed with 24k gold foil.
I generally avoid trying to take photographs of iconic places. I doubt that I can add much new in pictures of scenes that have been photographed thousands of times. I prefer instead to look carefully and attentively wherever I go in the belief that beauty is everywhere if I take the time to see it.
Once I have taken a picture that pleases me, I render it as true to my memory as I can. If I am successful, I hope that you will see and feel what I saw and felt as I was there and that my hand in rendering the image will be invisible.
