Artist Statement
It is an incredible gift to be able to bring a little bit of laughter and joy into people's everyday lives. Thus, elements of wonder and humor are important components of my work. And, as an artist that began as a photographer and has evolved with the genre from wet photography to the digital age, I have found myself pushed to define myself without apology as an artist with a distinct vision. The cynicism, rigidity, and banality of conventionalist ideas related to photography and the digital arts has pushed me ever further towards surrealism and whimsy. Instead of aspiring to mediocrity through the pursuit of excellence in common work, I find myself taking more chances in defiance of it. It's led me to more actively start telling stories and show people how I see the world, and to develop and utilize my own diverse set of digital techniques towards that endeavor. I strive to push the boundaries between photography and other art forms to stimulate the imagination and communicate the inherent vibrancy of the world around us.
