I have been a freelance photographer in the Albuquerque area since 2002. The people, architecture, and landscape of New Mexico, rich in earth textures and desert light, have made this region a natural home for me, my family and my work. My photography is greatly inspired by my time working and living in Yellowstone National Park, then becoming a mother with all its joys and upheavals. Motherhood triggered my fully embracing the feminine and led me to work with the Midwifery Coalition of NM, bringing home-birth awareness to the public and as a breastfeeding counselor with WIC. My work has been featured in many editions of the ‘Mothering Magazine’.

African drumming and dancing took me to Africa where, surrounded by incredible, natural landscapes and living conditions, I was able to explore people’s pure and unself-conscious ease in front of the camera. I learned just how much I can love and grew to appreciate deeply the essence and beauty of our world.

Although I photograph everything, my passion lies in expression: in raw human emotion – no masks. Sometimes it takes people a while to go to that next level beyond vanity or discomfort, but we always get there eventually! Photographing families is a great way to access this real place in people, as they really enjoy the play and cuddling time, and this spontaneity produces some amazing pictures. I am experienced in photographing art & jewelry for catalog & website design. I have produced promotional imagery and graphics (CD booklets, fliers and posters) for performers, including the high energy dance and drum troupes Ballet Kouyate and Casadimanza in all their colorful excitement and motion. I am honored to be the official photographer for Maple St. Dance space, ABQ High Desert Yoga Studios, Holistic Spa & Acupuncture, nonprofit women’s advocacy & healing network, as well as the judge for the photography contests within the Albuquerque Public Schools & throughout NM.

Artist Statement

I am a traveler, mother, yogi and a gatherer of moments and emotion. Photography places me in the present moment. When photographing people, my aim is to capture the essence of the moment because energy is in constant flux. Imperfections often wind up being an integral part of an image. My hope is that when one observes the Image, it conjures up empathy, tolerance, kindness and connection. From moments of grace to depths of despair and everywhere in between, my goal is to inspire.
