New Mexico landscape artist Christopher Miller spent a career working as a newspaper reporter and writer/manager at Sandia National Laboratories in Albuquerque, New Mexico, before becoming a full-time artist in 2015. His interest in art began as a child and he worked as a part-time artist during the latter part of his writing career.
Christopher has studied under some of New Mexico’s finest landscape artists, including Bill Gallen, Dave Ballew, Peggy Immel and Bud Edmondson. He also studied art history and literature in Paris and Strasbourg, France.
A near native of New Mexico, he grew up appreciating the vast, colorful vistas of New Mexico. That love of the landscape combined with a love of French and American Impressionist art led to his current pursuit of painting the New Mexico landscape.
Christopher has shown his work at the New Mexico Art League, New Mexico State Fair, The Albuquerque Art Showcase, Sumner and Dene Gallery and New Mexico Cancer Center in Albuquerque, Wilder Nightingale Fine Art Gallery and Millicent Rogers Museum in Taos, and the Sorrel Sky Gallery in Santa Fe.
Christopher is a member of Plein Air Painters of New Mexico, the New Mexico Art League, and serves as president of the Rio Grande Art Association. He also paints each Tuesday in the Albuquerque area with a group of plein air landscape painters.
Artist Statement
The Southwest landscape provides inspiration for my paintings. I paint to evoke feelings in the viewer, feelings of awe and joy and a longing to embrace the landscape as I do.
