David Zaintz is a self-taught mixed media artist and painter. He was born in Brooklyn, New York in 1963, and moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1973.
For many years, he concentrated his talents in graphic and interior design.
His love for collecting Judaic and abstract art, along with his appreciation of New Mexican landscapes & folk art, were all big influences. Zaintz's paintings represent his own interpretation of Abstract Expressionism and Minimalism, including portraits and figures, Southwestern landscapes and urban aerial views, in addition to his current "Colorburst" series.
His art is born from an inner passion to communicate his visions onto canvas. Using vibrant color combinations as well as a black & white palette, his range of work reflects his versatility as an artist. Often, much of his inspiration, as well as the titles of the pieces are derived from music he listens to while he works. He uses a variety of techniques, painting occasionally with brushes and rags, but mostly just using his hands.
Described as "whimsical, with a rich balance of brilliant luminescence and depth, expressing both earthly and ethereal elements and textures, they are set with an occasional touch of non-objective realism and symbolism, encouraging ultimate interpretation from the viewer."
Named a Local Treasure in 2012 by the Albuquerque Arts Business Association, Zaintz also received the annual ABQ Pride Outstanding Artist Award in 2015, 2016 and 2017. He has shown at many venues. Locally, he has exhibited at The Harwood Art Center, The A Store, Veilleux Gallery and The El Dorado Hotel in Santa Fe, and Rio Bravo Fine Art in Truth or Consequences. He has had Solo exhibitions at Viola Gallery in Old Town, Gallerie Imaginarium, Hotel Andaluz in downtown Albuquerque, as well as Expo New Mexico's Fine Arts Gallery.
His art is used for staging in Albuquerque and Santa Fe home shows, and is currently represented at Sumner & Dene, a well established gallery in downtown Albuquerque, and Reside Home, an up and coming design showroom in the Railyard District of Santa Fe. His work has been featured in Albuquerque The Magazine and The Collector's Guide. Zaintz's art is in numerous private and corporate collections across the country.
Artist Statement
Having a professed affinity for Abstract Minimalism, I'd originally experimented with using a specific color and its many variations and hues. I wanted to create depth and dimension in the works so the viewers can feel a distinguishable distance from edge to center, in whichever direction the painting appears to be taking them, interchangeable between earth, sky and water.
It had become a popular series, and I am now taking the concept further, adding other combinations of color, and I am thoroughly enjoying the "Colorburst" process.
In addition, I'm offering several prints of some of my other most celebrated pieces. Each print is a limited edition of five, printed on luminescent metallic paper, framed and double matted.
