Artist Statement

My watercolors visually depict the theme of nostalgia, while focusing on abstract light patterns. In my current series, the hard, cold surfaces of crystal and glass family heirlooms are juxtaposed with the vibrancy, warmth, and sensuousness of various fruits, flowers and fabrics.

While painting each still life, all of my senses become engaged—sight, smell, taste, and touch. This experience translates into the process of the painting. I not only express how the glass reflects the colors of surrounding objects, but also show the transparency and how sunlight refracts into its spectrum of colors as it passes through the glass.
With my series of old cars and trucks, I am looking at reflections in the chrome and the feelings of nostalgia. I am also continuing to study the way light plays with the glass of the windows and headlights.
