Growing up in Philadelphia and living and working overseas, I consider my home the Southwest, living here since the early 90’s. I graduated with a degree in art education, majoring in printmaking with courses in photography. My early photographic experiences included film photography, photographing weddings, and special events.
I currently serve as President of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club (ELCC) since 2017, and in the past as an exhibition judge, and Mentorship chair. My artistic endeavors include several years as an entrepreneur as a studio, gallery, and frame show owner, and graphic designer. I also served as a New Jersey State Fair judge in the art category. Some highlights and notable accomplishments include art published in the book Printmaking in the Sun, exhibiting at Site Santa Fe, and winning various awards. One of the highlights of my early career was curation, restoration, and preservation of historical art of two ten foot calligraphic framed restorations hanging at Carpenter’s Hall in Philadelphia at the Independence Square Historical site.
My passion for mentoring and teaching continues. I love sharing my experience and knowledge of art, photography, and digital darkroom techniques teaching classes, mentoring/coaching one-on-one, and leading photography workshops at both White Sands National Park and previously at the Artistic Image in Albuquerque.
Artist Statement
I continue to be inspired by the extraordinary beauty of the southwestern landscape and surrounding areas. My faith informs my art as I endeavor to capture the beauty of God’s creation in nature, mostly landscapes and flowers, which fuels my inspiration and creativity; communicating it in various forms from realistic to abstract, to creative interpretation using a blend of artistic expression and metaphor with nature photography in creating the final image.
Many times, I visualize the finished image before I press the shutter. I try and capture the vision in my mind’s eye of the scene along with its beauty, drama, emotion, light, shape, impact, and feeling. The flow of light across the New Mexico landscape many times adds an ethereal look to the image. I think of words and am often reminded of scripture when creating the final image and I try to bring this feeling and emotion to the image that I felt at the time I took the photo.
