Ralph Beery Greene – bio

Ralph Greene has exhibited locally and internationally and he has been involved in the Albuquerque art scene for decades both as artist, gallerist and instructor. He currently is the owner of Freestyle Gallery and has taught art classes at CNN for more than a decade. His work is grounded in expressionism, with just occasional forays into classical and conceptual work. His highly textured pieces are worked on simultaneously, returning to dried work, weeks after they began. Only then do profound images evolve from the negative space in which they reside: to complete the story and convey the deeply personal experience that is central to his work.

Artist Statement

I am grounded in expressionism, with just occasional forays into classical and conceptual work. Dense, painterly oils and pastels are immediately recognizable as emanating from me

Pieces are worked on simultaneously, returning to dried work, weeks after they began. Only then do profound images evolve from the negative space in which they reside: to complete the story and convey the deeply personal experience of my work.

The work comes to me and I just paint, I am telling the story, the narrative.

Texture in my work is important. Texture is layering, swirling, scumbling and smearing of gobs of paint or mashed pastel. These approaching surfaces mirror life through my work with movement, feeling and the sense of place.

My work while recognizable, is always viewed through the eyes of the beholder

My hope is that my work can be the conduit of spiritually that moves you.
