Biography

Doug Webb was born in the small town of Faith, South Dakota, and grew up in a military family that moved often before settling in Watertown, New York. It was there, in a public school system rich with progressive teachers and innovative programs, that Doug first discovered the freedom to think, question, and express himself. A pivotal figure in this awakening was Fred Feldman, his seventh-grade art teacher, who recognized Doug’s natural talent and gently guided him into a deeper relationship with creativity. That small but powerful moment - “You have a nice sense of design” - sparked something vital in a young boy who found refuge, identity, and joy in the world of art.

Amid the cultural revolution of the late '60s and early '70s, Doug immersed himself in the vibrant energy of music, ideas, and self-expression. His time in the art room became sacred, leading to numerous awards and a growing confidence in his voice as an artist.

Doug went on to earn a BA in Art from the State University College at Buffalo, then moved to Chicago for ten years before settling in Santa Fe in 1990. Doug’s journey has been one of continuous exploration, expanding beyond painting into design, music, dance, writing, and transformational coaching. His life includes strong meditative practice, as well as deep inner exploration of consciousness. And a lot of dance. He now lives in Corrales with his partner, Nancy Smith, where he continues to follow his calling - one brushstroke, one insight, one bold step at a time.

Artist Statement

I've always felt inspired to go beyond the idea that artists should find a single niche and stay within it. For me, art is a way to explore the vastness of the universe, and that journey naturally leads me through a variety of styles and processes. From spiritual surrealism, abstracts, and geometrics to decorative art and what I call straight landscapes, each approach offers a unique lens through which to express and discover.
