New Mexico artist Holly Roberts earned an M.F.A. from Arizona State University, Tempe, in 1981. Her work is known both nationally and internationally. She has received numerous awards, including two National Endowment for the Arts. She has had five monographs published on her work, and most recently had a retrospective exhibit at the San Diego Museum of Art.
Holly Robert’s work combines photography and paint in a way that allows her to achieve more than either one would alone. Independently, they may have a certain beauty or power, but by joining them together she is able to find the complex, double reality that has become her visual language. Her metamorphic beings illustrate archetypal emotional or dream states, although her subject matter has expanded from the internal to a wider worldview, touching on religion, technology and the environment.
