Biography

For a long time, I lived the corporate lifestyle, worked in cubicles and tried to participate in the suburban dream, but there was always something missing. Fortunately, a series of life events set me free to pursue a lifelong passion for video production, which I still do. Along the way I discovered photography and what started as an occasional side project became a life-changing journey of new perspectives and creative possibilities.

I’ve always had a keen appreciation of modern art, especially in its more expressionistic forms, which undoubtedly has influenced my work. As a fine-art photographer, my mission is to take the time to look beyond the familiar to see those things that are overlooked, forgotten or unseen. I enjoy finding beauty in imperfection and appreciating the moments of discovery that come when I'm out with my camera. The images I create allow me to share this experience in a way that I hope is as compelling as it is unexpected.

Artist Statement

It is summer and the road shimmers from the heat of the sun as I drive my pick-up along old route 66. As a photographer, this is something I wanted to do since moving to New Mexico so I’m making my pilgrimage to the mother road to see what all the talk is about. I have heard about how the road was originally conceived to connect the main streets of America together, an attempt to harness the energy of a newly mobile country that was thirsty for a little adventure and some good times. It was a time filled with promise and possibility.

Steeped in history and nostalgia, many businesses and roadside attractions still survive to serve the tourist trade with t-shirts and ice cream. Some have fallen on hard times, victims of time and inevitability. But there are other markers of this bygone era that endure, standing steadfast though weathered and weary. These are the ones that speak to me.

“Oh you should have seen it” they say, eliciting stories of grander times filled with smiles and purpose. I am left to wonder about those who lived and worked there, what dreams and aspirations they might have had and ultimately, where did they go? Each location has its story to tell and stands in defiance to the passage of time, reminding us that we too live on in the memories that are passed down from generation to generation.

My pictures are a way to capture their faded beauty and help these survivors live on, if only as an image. It is the least I can do for them.
