My inspiration for painting comes from nature. A week-long birding trip to Southeastern Arizona more than 20 years ago was the catalyst that started my love affair with birds. I was so captivated by the experience (15 species of hummingbirds!) that I went on to earn a certificate in Field Ornithology and to live and travel internationally to see, photograph, and paint birds. I currently live and work in Jemez Springs, New Mexico.
When I started to paint birds, I moved away from oils and started to experiment with watercolors. My new love of birds and a new medium worked in tandem to create my unique style. My fanciful borders are inspired by the bird's habitat or, sometimes, it's simply artistic fancy that reflects how I feel about that particular bird.
My paintings have been selected for juried art exhibitions in Southwest region of the United States and in Mexico. I am currently a member of the New Mexico Watercolor Society and former member and past president of the Santa Fe Society of Artists. I had the honor of being selected as the Artist in Residence at the Hog Island Audubon Camp in Maine in 2017, which was the inspiration the painting of the Atlantic Puffins featured in this exhibit.
