Biography
Julia Lambright was born and raised in Russia. She earned a BFA and MFA with Distinction in painting from the University of New Mexico. Working in oil in the past, her prime medium of choice is egg-tempera, knowledge she acquired from masters in Russia and the United States. While searching for a personal spiritual experience, Lambright began exploring iconographic canons, formulas, and techniques of 17th century icon painting, addressing her history and childhood experiences.
Nowadays, Lambright’s continuous fascination with materials leads to a new exploration with soft pastels. Searching for more immediate expression and greater experimental capabilities with the colors, her subject is sustained to reflect her inner world that tied to the themes of beauty in everyday life.
Artist Statement
How can I explain how I feel, living between the layers of past and present? The challenge of uncertainty of verbal communication propels my paintings. I search for memories on the tangible surface between the inner world and the observable one, one that explains myself and my surroundings.
