Biography
Kim Amati grew up in Chicago, where a Georgia O’Keeffe exhibition at the Art Institute sparked a lifelong fascination with New Mexico. In 2021 she moved to Albuquerque, and she remains inspired by the region’s beauty, history, and vibrant culture.
She earned a Bachelor of Arts in Art from North Park University and began her career as a graphic designer in the publishing industry. A brief but formative chapter in the antiques trade awakened her passion for collecting, and many of the objects she gathered have since found new life in her work. For more than 15 years, Kim has shown and sold her work through art fairs, galleries, and shops in Chicago and its suburbs, and now in Santa Fe, St. Augustine, and Albuquerque.
Artist Statement
I create mixed-media paintings that combine oil and acrylic with repurposed vintage jewelry, buttons, beads, glass, paper, clay, wire, figurines, and other found objects. By transforming broken or overlooked materials, I give them new purpose and make each piece truly one of a kind.
My work is designed to catch the eye, bring a smile, or offer a quiet moment of reflection. I create original art in a range of sizes so people with different spaces and budgets can find a piece that speaks to them. My original, one-of-a-kind pieces are colorful, whimsical, and intentionally unlike anything else, inviting viewers to look closer and discover something unexpected.
