Artist Statement

In New Mexico, we have the privilege to live among mountains, hills and river valleys with an endless array of colors. We can get lost in the day-to-day activities and forget to look up; to take a drive/walk/ride and stand close beneath the grandeur of nature. What awe and wonder can do for our souls is something heavenly; something divine. I began to paint mountain landscapes after nearly a decade of heartbreak and confusion. Being in the mountains brought my soul back to life and gave me a sense of adventure. Challenging myself physically through hiking helped lift my mind out of the fog, and in the mountain wind, I felt close to God and experienced an indescribable peace and joy for life.

I paint because I feel like I must do something with that beauty before me; document it, spend more time with it, explore how to recreate the colors and shadows and bring that feeling back to life by sharing it. I hope these pieces inspire you to look up and spend time in awe among the mountains and valleys.
