Biography
Originally from Philadelphia, my journey has taken me across the globe, but since the early 1990s, I’ve called the American Southwest home. With a degree in Art Education - emphasizing printmaking and photography - my creative journey began with film, capturing weddings and special events, and evolved into a lifelong passion for fine art and digital photography.
From 2017 to 2024, I served as President of the Enchanted Lens Camera Club. I continue to contribute and serve as Mentorship Chair and Portfolio Project Coordinator and have served as an exhibition judge and speaker.
My artistic path has included roles as a studio, gallery, and frame shop owner, as well as a graphic designer. Locally, I’ve led workshops, classes, and mentoring at the Artistic Image. Notable highlights include being published in Printmaking in the Sun and exhibiting at SITE Santa Fe.
Today, my passion lies in continuing my photographic journey and sharing knowledge—through teaching, mentoring, and leading workshops in stunning locations like White Sands National Park. Whether in the classroom or out in the field, I’m dedicated to helping others grow creatively through photography and visual storytelling.
Artist Statement
I am continually inspired by the extraordinary beauty of the Southwestern landscape and its surrounding regions. My faith plays a central role in my creative process, guiding me as I seek to reflect the beauty of God’s creation in nature—especially through landscapes and flowers. These ignite my inspiration and fuel my exploration in a variety of photographic styles, from realistic depictions to abstract impressionism, to creative interpretations using a blend of artistic expression and metaphor as the narrative in creating the final image.
A few of my artistic influencers include Will Barnet, Monet, Georgia O’Keeffe, Alfred Stieglitz, Minor White, Eliot Porter, Michael Kenna, Marc Adamus, and Bruce Percy. Their work informs both my aesthetic and the depth of meaning I seek to convey in my own images.
I often see the images I capture as visual metaphors and envision the final image before pressing the shutter—visioning the scene not just as it is, but its essence and how it feels. I strive to translate the vision in my mind’s eye, capturing not only the beauty, the drama, and the light, but also the emotion, shape, and atmosphere that first moved me.
The light that flows across the New Mexico landscape frequently adds an ethereal quality. Scripture and poetry often come to mind during the creative process, influencing how I shape the final image. I try to imbue each image with the same sense of wonder, reverence, spiritual connection, and depth that stirred me when I first captured the image.
