Biography
I was born in upstate New York and spent most of my career as an educator. I have degrees in French, Spanish, art and a MS in school administration. After teaching in Upstate New York and Long Island, N.Y. for 10 years, I became a principal. When I retired from public education, I continued to work with teachers and educators in New York City as a clinical supervisor and adjunct professor of education.
I began painting in 1977 in Lacoste, Provence, France where I worked with Bernard Pfriem, a SoHo artist, and his apprentice. I took a hiatus from painting to focus on my job as a school administrator and raising my daughter and started up again when I retired and moved to New Orleans in 2013. I began painting under the mentorship of Phil C. Thompson and attended the New Orleans Academy of Fine Arts. I have exhibited in the Hamptons at the Southampton Arts Show, at Palmer Park Arts Market and Mid City Studios, Placitas artist series, New Mexico art League, Center Gallery in Truth or Consequences, and Gallery ABQ in Albuquerque.
Artist Statement
As an oil painter I am passionate about depicting all things organic, especially flowers and vegetables. I love the intimacy of getting up close and personal with my subjects like a macro lens of a camera. In doing so, I see the natural kaleidoscope of colors, shapes and values. Every organic thing has a special beauty and can represent another being or evoke a feeling. I try to capture that feeling. I am inspired by many artists, but particularly the works of Georgia O’Keeffe.
