Biography

A great many subjects interest me photographically, but I find the most stimulating to capture are the abstract, found both in nature and the manmade, that reels me in with pattern, texture, line, form or a combination. Whether or not an image of mine appeals to the market means less than if I have produced an image to my own satisfaction—and if my wife will let me hang it in the house! My interest in photography early in life led to a 35-year career in the communication arts--graphic design and publishing, advertising agencies, and corporate marketing management--where I worked with top-notch creative teams serving well-known consumer and business brands.

My work has been recognized at Albuquerque’s Shades of Gray and the Annual New Mexico Photographic Art Show. It has also been featured at the Amarillo Museum of Art; Houston’s Art Car Museum and Williams Tower Gallery, as well as several Fotofest International exhibitions; and Oklahoma City’s Art Space Unlimited. I regularly show in my community of Placitas, including the annual Placitas Studio Tour and Placitas Artists Series, where I serve on the board of directors.

I received a BS in Journalism/Advertising from Oklahoma State University, furthered my photographic skills through Santa Fe Photographic Workshops, and am an ongoing student of all things visual. My wife and I moved from Texas to Placitas in 2018 where we maintain a studio and workshop.

Artist Statement

Going through cancer diagnosis and treatment can be one of the most humbling and scary things that can happen to a person of any age. I know because I am a cancer survivor and my wife is currently in long-term treatment, with more surgery imminent. And, of course, we have both family members and friends who have been or are going through the long process.

Among the unavoidable features of cancer treatment are frequent appointments at NMCC, with lots of waiting for tests, doctor visits, and treatments. Helping provide patients with a visual environment that is relaxing, meditative and inspiring during these times led me to explore my catalog of images with these attributes in mind. Nature has a way of healing that cannot be explained, so I sought panoramic outdoor scenes offering soothing horizontal lines to help the viewer slip away from their current location into another world, if only for a short while.
