Biography

I was born in Wilmington, Delaware and have delightedly now settled in New Mexico. In between those two events, I have been, among other things, a designer, a builder, an animal lover, a teacher, a collaborator, a traveler, a writer, a volunteer, a wife and of course, an artist. I lived in California, South Carolina, Indiana, Alabama, New York, and Tennessee, moving as the need or desire called. My artwork appears in private collections, on the internet, and printed on T-shirts. I came to New Mexico because the rocks and plants all look like weird sculpture, the sky goes on forever and the low humidity keeps me content and comfortable. I create so I can look forward to the next day.

Artist Statement

I am a collage artist who first creates uniquely decorated paper using different drawing or painting techniques which I then combine into my designs. No material is off limits if it looks interesting to me or feels nice to manipulate. I like to walk the line between recognizable subjects and abstraction, and I often use my own photographs for inspiration. My intention is to invite an emotional response - from myself during the creation and from the viewer. The responses may not be the same. In fact, I doubt they can be.

Art can provide a vehicle for close examination, deep thought, provocation, dialogue, and the sheer joy of being in the presence of beautiful or intriguing objects and sensual materials. I am consistently intrigued by how a particular arrangement of shapes, space, colors, repetition, and textures evokes an emotional reaction - sometimes loud, sometimes subtle. I am fascinated by the fact that combining two things creates something new that did not exist before. For me, art provides a distraction, a laugh, a poke in the eye, a respite, an opportunity, and a moment of wonder.
